Type Locality and Naming

The name was given by the Compiling Group of Northeast China Regional Stratigraphical Scale, Liaoning Province Fascicle in 1979. The type section is located at southwest of Xingshuwa in Xiaochengzi Township, Linxi County, Zhawudameng (Prefecture), the Inner Mongol Zizhiqu.

Synonym: (杏树洼组)


Lithology and Thickness

It is dominated by brecciated slate, slate, breccia, slate intercalated with brecciated limestone and limestone lenses; there is also meta-sandstone in both the lower and upper parts. The formation is approximately 760 m in exposed thickness,

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

At the type section locality, no lower and upper boundaries are outcropped. On regional strat column, the next older unit is the Shuiquangou Fm of middle Silurian,

Upper contact

At the type section locality, no lower and upper boundaries are outcropped. On regional strat columns, the next younger unit is the volcanics of the Dashizha Fm of middle Permian,

Regional extent

The formation is only observed on the northern bank of Xar Moron River, south of the Linxi County, Zhawudameng (Prefecture), the Inner Mongol Zizhiqu.

Fossils

The grayish black limestone lenses at the upper part of the section yield anthozoa Typlasma hedstrmi, Weissermelia lindstrmi, Favosites, Pachyfavosites and stromatopor Stromatopora, etc.
